Growing up I was a fantastic drawer of the stick person. Going through life, getting older,

I believed that was my artistic prowess, destined to be the drawer of stick people. Then in December of 2015 after being retired for two years, I was admiring some art work and mentioned to the artist my wish that I could do something half a good as his drawing.

His response was “anyone can learn to draw or become an artist”. Like everything else in life you need to Practice, have the Passion to learn and have the Persistence not to quit.

So on the 15th of December 2015 my artistic journey began as I decided to give the 3 P’s a chance. I realized I needed to practice a lot, had the passion to to succeed and the persistence not to give up.

Took lessons in acrylic paint, but decided that medium was not for me, dabbled with graphite drawings, colored pencils, inktense pencils and finally settled on pastel and pastel pencils.

I started with birds and small animals, moving to dogs, cats, larger animals, landscapes and then to portraits.

I have so much more to learn and practice and I am by no means a fantastic or a prolific artist but from where I began to here two years later is short of amazing for me. I improve with every drawing but have a long way to go. It has been an amazing adventure.

I just hope that I will be able to inspire someone to start their adventure of drawing something more than stick people. Remember, your never too old to start anything in life and never be intimidated to start something new, at any age, and Practice, have the Passion to learn and the Persistence not to quit. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Who knows, you may become the next Picasso!
